Joining a Virtual Organisation
Once you have obtained a Grid Certificate, you will need to become a member of a Virtual Organisation (VO). VOs are usually associated with a particular HEP experiment, but as the Grid grows so will the number of VOs, so maintaining a comprehensive list here would be difficult. However, you probably already know which VO you intend to join.
VOs will generally have their own web sites which are likely to have some Grid-related information, so you should look at these for more information. Atlas users should also look at the workbook written by Steve Lloyd. Your local site may also have its own web pages.
How to join a VO
Check the CIC portal for how to join a VO (details below!). You will need to have your certificate loaded into your browser for this. As part of the registration process you will have to agree to an Acceptable Use Policy; you will also be bound by the rules which apply normally at your institute.
Some local VOs within GridPP may not be handled by the centralised procedure described above. In this case you should contact the VO or read their web pages to see how to register.
Registration can be hard to find, so here's how. In the CIC portal, click "VO Management" -> "HOME", then locate your VO. After the page finishes loading you should be able to select a VO. After that page finishes loading, you should see the "VO ID card". Scroll down to "General Information" and look out for "Enrollment URL." This URL should look something like this: https://lcg-voms.cern.ch:8443/vo/dteam/vomrs. Click it to take you through to the VOMRS registration. Once again, you will need your certificate in the browser to be able to register.
