Role of Tier-1 Manager

The Tier-1 Manager ensures the successful deployment and operation of the GridPP Tier-1 centre at RAL by meeting the requirements of the GridPP project, and thereby the needs of the UK HEP community.

The role of the Tier-1 Manager is to:

1. Oversee day-to-day operations of the Tier-1 infrastructure;

2. Ensure the formulation and implementation of procedures necessary to provide the timely deployment of a production-quality Tier-1 centre;

3. Lead the Tier-1 Team;

4. Ensure that the Tier-1 Centre provides assistance and guidance to the Tier-2 sites;

5. Report to the Tier-1 Board on overall progress and issues;

6. Report to the Deployment Board on Grid-specific progress and issues relating to the Tier-1;

7. Liaise with the experiments/user community on their technical interaction with the Tier-1 centre and respond to requirements as they emerge;

8. Liaise with other Tier centres on the technical interaction of the Tier-1 centre with the production grid;

9. Report to the Project Manager on matters concerned with the deliverables and milestones associated with the Tier-1 items on the GridPP Project Map.
